Field Work
Field work is the guts and glory of the program. The glory is in the completion of each project and the positive results that follow, and the guts… well, it’s good, heartfelt, physical work. Every garden that we dig increases local food security and creates new marketing possibilities for La Flor’s residents. Every log, scrap of tin, and bead of sweat that goes into building a facility for compost and bocashi-making closes the circle on sustainability. More compost means less chemical fertilizers, and more bocashi means a source of revenue for the Grupo Ecologico. Solar showers conserve energy and make for a nice warm alternative for families who don’t have hot water, and village beautification projects like painting and cleaning up the garbage will have a positive impact on visitors and residents alike.
We encourage proposals for projects from all residents of La Flor, as well as from our partners and our program participants. There is a lot to do, so our programs are constantly evolving. When you register for a Cultivating Communities program, we will send you an information package that includes a schedule and the projects that you can expect to work on. Although our schedules, educational topics, and projects are subject to change at anytime, we make every effort to arrange our programs well in advance, so please contact us if you’d like to know what you’ll be working on prior to applying.
