Cultivating Communities EcoAgriCulture and Sustainability Program is a travel program located in La Flor, a mountain village in central Costa Rica. EcoAgriCulture means ecologically sound, agriculturally sustainable, and integrated in the culture and pulse of La Flor and the surrounding region. We are a Floreño, a Winnippeger, and a Floripegger who call the village home.
For years in La Flor, a diverse group of people with like-minded goals have been working to build a more sustainable community. We started this program because we saw an opportunity to be a part of that; to get the word out and bring people to La Flor to provide resources and assistance to get the projects done. We learned much of what we know by the experiences we had working and volunteering in La Flor, in Canada, and in other countries, so we have a soft spot for travelers, especially those who travel to learn. We wanted to offer something new, unique, and real; a purposeful travel program focusing specifically on environmental and agricultural sustainability.
Cultivating Communities programs may be all-inclusive, but they are not the average package tour. Instead of extravagant, foreign-owned hotels, think comfortable, local, family homes. Instead of lavish dinner buffets, imagine tasty, regional, home-cooked cuisine. In lieu of expensive, private tour-buses, picture the colourful, Bluebird school buses used by the locals. And instead of a vacation where you invest only dollars into the economy, know that your hard work, your laughter, and your spirit will be infused here in the soil you turn and the hearts you touch.
